Recently, 9th ID decided to portray Korean War for a change and new spark is lit, I eventually want to see an actual Korean War unit someday as well ;D I'm working on of course ROK impression... Annya Na sayyo! I think the biggest thing about Korea is the general public, even probably most reenactors, know nothing about it. As for DPRK, I wouldn't wear it, but it would be neat for display...

Hi, my names Philip Smith-Keary, live in the UK. Mainly interested in the Second World War but now branching out after reading bits and pieces on the Korean War, Malayan crisis and the Vietnam War.
Main interest is in the early CIA operations in Korea.
All the best,
Phil

Hmm..... Living in the UK and doing research on the CIA could pose some problems. Of course, any serious research on the CIA is tough.

Hey everybody,
I thought I would register on your forums. I got this link from Ben, as I am also a member of the 9th ID reenactment unit in Southern California. You already know we are going to be doing a Korean War impression and display at the upcoming event Fort MacArthur. I have been researching to do a Chinese Volunteers impresion, and I must commend all the work everybody here has put into their topics so far. I am glad to see that perhaps this "Forgotten" war will soon not be so forgotten. Hopefully, I can contribute to the forums and we can all help each other.

Hey Guys,
I just found out about the forum and joined. My names Rich Mason. I live in Washington State (the Washington on the West coast...between Oregon and Canada, NOT the one on the East coast where all the politicians hang out).
I don't know of any Korean-War reenactment groups out my way, but I and a few friends have done living history and displays for Korean war era for several years.
I have done CW and WW2 reenacting for many, many years, but got interested in Korea as my Dad was in the Army right at the tail end of the war, 1954-56 (yeah I know the war ended in 1953, but my Dad's comment was "they may have signed an Armistice, but they sure as he!! were still fighting over there").
Dad was in the 325th and 723rd Tank Battalions and was a gunner on the brand new M-48 Patton Tanks. He said that there was still enough of a threat of war breaking back out that all of the vehicles and equipment for his Tank Battalion were being loaded on ships and he had orders for Korea, but a week before he was to ship out, it cooled down enough that they cancelled the orders and unloaded the ships.
He was REALLY happy not to have to go over there. Of course, after they did not have to go to Korea his unit was chosen as one of the units that observed the Atomic Bomb tests in the Nevada desert and went in right afterwards...but that's another story.
Anyway, I grew up hearing stories form him and several other Korean war vets in our neighborhood, so it has always interested me. I have also been collecting WW2 stuff for many years, and up until a few years ago, you could pick up the Korean war era stuff for a fraction of the price of the WW2 stuff, so I collected it as well.
I'm just happy to find this type of forum for those of us that are interested in the"Forgotten War". Looking forward to sharing the hobby with all of you.
Rich M

Hi folks, my name is Gerhard, I am 27 and I live over here in Germany. I started reenacting the medieval times 1st half of the 13th century. This 'era' I will pick up within the next months again I hope. Then I did some late Roman Infantry in a University project where we crossed the alpes 'per pedes'. Finally I arrived at my 'favourite' war, Vietnam. There I am doing 4/23rd Tomahawks of the 25th ID '68 and '69. I am building up some ANZAC of that time as well as LRRP (not quite sure which unit exactly). USMC would be nice too. Well and as I am interested in Korea as well I am thinking it over. Maybe I get some impressions here... But I am really not sure which unit even which country... US would be great, but there so many UN units... Take care

Hello all, I'm Tom Salemi, recently moved to Greenville, North Carolina, from California.
I'm a long time WW2 reenactor, and I've recently started collecting an impression specifically for Korea. My original impression was 40th Division, 160th infantry as that was my unit in the California National Guard, now I'm doing more research and reavaluating what my impression is going to be (especially for pre-1952 impressions).

Hi everyone, my name is Sean. I am a member of the 7th Battalion The Black Watch Living History Association 1939-1945, based mainly on the East Coast of the US. We portray the 7th Battalion (North Africa, Sicily, NW Europe) and a couple of years ago decided to also sometimes portray the 2nd Battalion whilst in Burma conducting Chindit ops.
We usually also do timelines at some events, including Scottish Games and when sign-ups came along this year for impressions, I decided it was time to do something which was not yet represented...Korea. The 1st Battalion of "The Watch" was heavily involved in the battles for "The Hook."
Right now I am still in the research stages...have my eye on a couple of things on ebay. Come September, Korea will finally be represented on the Timeline of Scottish Soldiers.
Cheers!

I think I remember your unit, I used to do Brit "Back in the day" (1998-2001 or so). If you haven't looked at it yet I'd recommend the "Britain's small wars" website. I usually prefer book research but this one is pretty good.

I did some digging into the Commonwealth Division years ago, back at the tail end of my days reenacting British. Some very cool history there. This was about five years ago, but I remember several websites with good information and photographs. If I can find them again I'll post the URLs.

Osprey has a lot of pics of commonwealth troops, mostly Canucks. I'll see what I can find, most of the stuff I have access to is US. There was an article on the A&SH that I may be able to find in Military history, I think I set that issue aside somewhere...

Hi all, I am John Strangeway, I'm 32 and live in Hopatcong NJ (northwestern) I have a rather large Korean era army collection, (lucky that my grandfather left ALL kinds of stuff-FM's, TM's, ammo boxes and crates, footlockers, .45 colt, web gear, tents etc:). This is my first venture into reenactments and can't wait to find a unit and give it a go.
Thanks to Woodard for the help on registering.
Hope to learn and share what I can!!

For general reenacting info I'd direct you to www.hardscrabblefarm.com. Most of us have been doing reenacting for a while, and this forum may not be the best place to start out, but we'll be glad to help. You may want to look for a unit near where you live, contact them, borrow some gear, and go out to something to see what you think. www.atthefront.com has a good list of links to WW2 units. No one really "reenacts" Korea yet, those of us on this forum do displays at public events once in a while.

There was an Inchon re-enactment back in 1996 or 1997. I was all set to go but at the last minute, couldn't.
I wish they'd do it again.

I think if we could get some people to do Chinese it wouldn't be too tough, not much to buy if you already have a US WW2 kit. I think I posted some pics of the 97' event somewhere on this forum...
