I hope this can answer the question been asked in the other thread. Again, this is the general guide line, there were always excetions. In the 1930's, the "Central Army" of the Nationalist government started switch their summer issue uniform color from traditional gray-blue to yellow-green (Some units had Khaki color; some still wore gray-blue). From 1942 on, their uniforms color slowly switched to khaki.
The armies of provincial powers basically followed the same regulations of combat dress as the "Central Army". The uniforms of armies of provincial powers were only different in color and in minor details according to local supplies. For instance, the armies in northern china wore their traditional gray-blue uniforms instead of the yellow-green ones of central army. This would apply to communist 8th route army. Regardless central army or armies of provincial powers, their winter issue cotton padded jacket were usually in gray-blue color.

I had the opportunity a few years ago to talk with an old Marine in our DAV Post, who was at the Chosin, and he said the Chinese were wearing gray... In the years since this was originaly posted, I've had a chance to look at color pictures and even owned a Chinese summer Type 55 tunic...sadly I let it go. The tunic was EXACTLY the same color "khaki" as a WWII USMC wool shirt, and made from HBT cotton material.
In any case, I wanted to say that, early in war anyway, each division (who knows, maybe even Regiments)quite possibly could be uniformed differently that the one next to it. One wearing quilted, knee length, double-breasted overcoats, while the next wore the telegeika style jackets. One unit kitted out with American lend-lease gear from the Nationalists, and the next unit wearing the cottage industry Chinese cloth kit. One unit with bushy, Mongolian looking trooper caps, and the next unit with caps made from cotton and blanket wool.
The point is, that there was a wide variety of unifoms and equipment (weapons too) used. Our goal, I believe, should be to make ourselves look as uniform as possible WITHIN each unit.
