Gents, I hope someone may be able to help me. I picked up a Korean War Ike jacket recently, not an easy find here in the U.K.! It has small blue on gold Corproal rank insignia and a nice bullion 40th Infantry Div. S.S.I., the collar insignia has been removed along with the ribbon bar on the left chest which seems to have been for 3 decorations, there may have possibly been something like a Unit Commendation over the right chest pocket aswell.
Now, I didn't even think of checking the pockets when I bought it, but did so when I got home and found some paperwork folded up including an order/list of men being transferred from a reassignment to release depot in Jan. 1953 plus a slip of paper which tallies with the name of a Corporal on the list Kenneth E. Miller, U.S.52075239 with his M.O.S. listed as '1816'. The jacket itself in not named and I'd really like to at least replace the collar insignia and if possible find out what unit the chap was in and whether the Ike did indeed belong to him. I've looked through the list of M.O.S's on the Korean War Educator website and the only thing coming up for M.O.S. 1816 was 'Personnel administrative supervisor'.
Can anyone please tell me if that was the only M.O.S. with that number and if so what branch of service would a man have been in? Also can anyone suggest where I can get any information on the man, I tried NARA but only just realised it doesn't cover the period. Is there any agency I can contact for information if I have his name and serial number as I'd really like to put the history back with this jacket if possible.
Thanks, Jon.

Just a bump gents, any help with I.D.ing the Branch of Service for this chap would be really appreciated. Would 'Personnel administrative supervisor' have been from a specific branch of service or could it have been a role assigned within any branch of service?

Hello Jon, Don't check in here too often, but the branch would be the "Adjutant General" for admin clerks etc. It looks like a knight's shield with blue top and red/white vertical stripes. See www.iragreen.com for the collar discs and shoulder patch. Being a Jarhead, I'm not too familiar with the Army's set-up, but I think that he'd only wear that patch if he was with an administrative "staff/headquarters" unit. Most probably he wore his division patch on his shoulder. The collar discs indicate his MOS and would be correct for his uniform, worn in any unit... That's my take on it anyway. John C.

Hi John, thank you, that's great. I really appreciate your help as I was getting nowhere otherwise. Edit: I've also just realised you've answered another question for me! I have another Ike jacket here with an up until now unknown collar insignia, it turns out to be Adjutent Generals Corps also! Thanks again, Jon.
