Gentleman...the time has come for the 2nd Korean War event hosted by the Quick Reenacting force. For this event we have decided to of course keep the past formulas and standards as we did at the last one, and that went over well.

The event will be at the same Location in Gretna, VA and will be on the 20-22nd of Febuary 2009.

We will be the 1st Platoon, Charlie Company, 23rd Regimental Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division.

The event will take place in Febuary of 1951 durring the feirce fighting over Chipyong Ni , we dont aim to re-create the entire battle for Chipyong Ni that simply isnt realistic. However we do Aim, like last years event, to give you a little slice of the battle and live a weekend in the shoes of a soldier in the trenches.

Like before, I will tell you...this event will be like one you have never seen or dont before. Those of you who were part of us for the last KW event know what to expect...and I assure you those who were not with us, ask around to those who came...you will not want to miss this event. There will be night engagements, digging, patroling, defensive operations, psycological warfare, lack of sleep and food (you will be fed, but sometimes you just dont have time to eat...like when the red attack right when the chow is brought up...ahh memories), if it rains, snows, sleets hails...we will be out in it...this is a hard core, 1st person driven event. You will be expected to stay in character for the entire event...everyone had no problem with that last year and we expect no less this year. This event is a juried event, you will be required to send in a picture of your impression with a packing list of what you intend on bringing to the event, this is not to question you or your impression, this is to help serve the Korean War Reenacting and living history experience to assure that everyone is squared away. Everyone will be required to do so, myself included, and the members of the event staff...will all submit the same things. You will be required to submit a 1st Person worksheet as part of your registration, and since we feed you, there will be a registration fee.

At last years event you did a lot of things that most of us have never experienced at a reenactment, and we aim to keep our standards high. It may seem standofish to some and like we are pricks...but we as Korean War Reenactors must work hard to keep the farbs out of our era.

1st Platoon Requirements (MINIMUM):

1 x Fatigue Jacket (m43 or m50 Jacket
1x Fatigue Pants (m43 or M50 trousers)
1x OD Shirt (ww2 Wool Shirt)
1x OD Trousers (ww2 wool trousers)
1x Pair Combat boots (m43 boots or Russet Combat boots)
2x Socks
2x Undershirt
1x Pair Dog Tags

Field gear
1x Cartridge belt (ww2 or Korean War era)
or
1x Pistol Belt w/ M1 Carbine Mag pouches (15 or 30 round mags/pouches)
1x Canteen w/cup
1x Canteen Carrier
1x First Aid Pouch
1x Etool w/Cover
1x Mess Kit w/Fork,Knife,Spoon (or just a spoon or Fork)
1x m1945 Field Pack w/suspenders
OR
*1x Bed Roll (Made with Wool Blankets, or sleeping bag)
1x M1 Steel Helmet w/Liner
1x Bayonet (for M1 Garand or M1 Carbine)

M1 Garand
M1 Carbine (with bayonet lug, "pot belly stock" and 30 Round magazines)

and in VERY limited numbers M1 or m1928 Thompsons
(Most everyone should have the m1 garand or the m1 carbine...if you plan on brining anything other than a m1 Garand or m1 Carbine let me know ASAP...this includes Bazookas, m1919a4/a6s, BARs, Thompsons, mortars, Pack howitzers, Sherman Tanks, F-86s and the Greasegun)


*Most guys in WW2 and Korea opted to carry a Hobo roll or bed roll as opposed to carrying a pack. They would make them with their shelter halves, panchos, blankets, and sleeping bag and there is no right or wrong way to have one...just make sure it looks presentable and isnt falling apart when we march out.



The Point of Contact for the American side is myself, John Abshire and my email is [e-mail] Use that email to send me your 1st person and Impression photo so I can build my platoon roster for the event.

The Point of Contact for the CCF or Chinese side is Bren Woodard and he can be reached at [e-mail]. He will be able to tell you what the impression detials are for the Reds, as I am not "in the know" of those reds.

Registration fee will be 25 dollars and it will be paid at "the gate". It worked out fine last year to do it at the gate, so I dont see a reason to change that.

I need your 1st Person work sheets and impression photos in my email NO LATER THAN 13Febuary2009. If for some reason you want to come and you are just now reading this and its 14 Febuary 2009, send me an email and we will work something out...but i dont want 200 emails on 14 febuary saying "oh i just read this" i will stab you.

Those intrested in playing specifc roles like Medic, psycological casulty, ect let me know so I can work you into the scenario...but dont email me asking if you can be a paratroope, sniper, MP, delta force, or Marine recon...the answer will be no

If you register after the 13th of Febuary2009 the cost will be $35 and that extra 10 dollars will be basically a fee because we will have to make a special trip to Wal-Mart the day of the event to get food for you...its not that we wont do it...its just we are feeding you for the entire event so the least one can do is send in the money early. (I forgot what a nightmare it was sending 2 guys out at 2300 to wal-mart to get food for the event...that was my oversight and thats why we are doing pre-registration)

The Registration fee will cover the following:
Food
Cooking of the Chow (gas, lighters, ect)
Water
Materials for the site (Sand bags, bardbed Wire, wood for structures...ect)

We're working on that. How old are you? Typically you must be 16 to participate and 18 to carry a gun, but we're trying to be flexible.

by then I will be 15. I would be with another friend same age and maybe an adult.
Please be flexible about the being 18 years to carry a gun. If you would like I can give a list of emails to people who would vouch for me, but I do understand the legal issues.

I do not have a work sheet but I have started working on a First Person:
History: I served in the 90th ID from 1942 till 1944 when I was wounded and was in the hospital until 1945 when I was sent as a replacement to the 2nd ID. My Home life was a mess, a poor family in the slum of Closter NJ, so I stayed in the army. I never climbed the ranks cause I do not follow 90 day wonders.

I have a couple issues if you will about the age problem. The problem is a issue of legality, If you did have a waiver signed by your parents and you did get hurt, they could still sue us. That wavier isnt worth the paper it is printed on to prevent some one from getting sued. Which in all honesty has always amazed me considering every event has you sign a document saying you wont hold them liable...when infact you can. (this is what a lawyer advised me)

The issue of the age boils down too a legal issue of some one carrying fire-arms. This is what the "Commonwealth" of Virgina says on the matter...
Virginia also prohibits any person under age 18 from knowingly and intentionally possessing or transporting a handgun, assault firearm, or shotgun ("which will hold more than seven rounds of the longest ammunition for which it is chambered") anywhere in Virginia. Section 18.2-308.7. A violation of this section is a Class I misdemeanor. Id. This section does not apply to:

1. Any person (i) while in his home or on his property; (ii) while in the home or on the property of his parent, grandparent, or legal guardian; or (iii) while on the property of another who has provided prior permission, and with the prior permission of his parent or legal guardian if the person has the landowner's written permission on his person while on such property;

2. Any person who, while accompanied by an adult, is at, or going to and from, a lawful shooting range or firearms educational class, provided that the weapons are unloaded while being transported;

3. Any person actually engaged in lawful hunting or going to and from a hunting area or preserve, provided that the weapons are unloaded while being transported; and

4. Any person while carrying out his duties in the armed forces of the United States or the National Guard of this Commonwealth or any other state.


So to me for you to come, I would need written permission from your legal guardian, I would need (since I assume they would drive you to the even) them to sign such a document infront of me and a couple witnesses, and I will also secure permission from the land owner and seek his signature as well. This will take care of the legal issues, but it wont prevent any sort of sueing...but to be honest Im not worried about it that much considering the steps we are taking...shows a long chain of people saying "you knew what you were getting into".

That is my take on the matter and it is the most fair and legal one I could think off...Since, Marc, you have a CCW in VA maybe you can tell me what you think of my proposal and I will leave any changes to be with you as you seem fit.

My only other issue is your 1st person work sheet...since you are young, very young, and you would really need to be in your mids 20s-early 30s to be a ww2 vet I dont think that would work very well with you being 19. My suggestion for you would be to change your age to 17 or 18 and you are a replacement. Yes no one wants to be green but the fact of the matter is...thats what the bulk of the fighting men would be, draftees and poor national guardsmen!

So that being said, the same standards apply to all ages and everyone. We have to make sure we are keeping our high level of realism, professionalism and correctness. No cutting corners, I have provided a list of acceptable uniform items above and if you wish to come make sure you have all that is required. I will need an updated First Person worksheet and an updated picture to show the changes. If you come to this event you will be treated like a soldier and like everyone elese, which means that comes with some dirty languages, some nasty situations, and some nasty climate chanages...we will expect the same out of you that we expect from anyone elese...just fair warning. I have mixed feelings about the whole thing, but I got into the hobby at your age and to be honest meeting some one your age NOW that isnt a Easy company 101st fanboy...means a lot so dont let us down.

No problem on the waiver and the first person I SO get it I was just trying to tie in my WWII impression so I will change it.
About the cutting corners and expecting things from me. this would not be my first event where I would be sleeping outside, subject to weather change, and subject to bad language ( my mom courses more then any reenactor I know). I always put authenticity first and for most and I NEVER cut corners EVER. If I am missing something I do not do it PERIOD.

Also you have to understand though I have bee reenacting WWII since 2006 I am just starting KW, so It is a little unfamiliar to me, but by Febuary I will ready.
Again about the first person. I am fine with being green I would rather be green then a vet, even in WWII I do a replacement impression. I also understand your sceptitism, when I first started WWII I met lot of resistance because everyone looks at youngsters as being "another farb who wants to be Major winters of E co 506 101 chair borne sorry Airborne" But in the past year I have broken that mold of young guys and have been on the event staff of "D-Day Conneaut" in Ohio and am honorary members of:

Ok so I am more than impressed with what I have seen with your youth reenactors group and I am so far impressed with you as a reenactor. You remind me a lot of myself when I got into the hobby, infact the group that we have stared is a group that is dedicated to doing events just like this Korean War event for other time peroids, like the Civil war, World War two, World war One, Vietnam...ect.

Would any more of your memebers be intrested in comming as long as they are up to par on the impression...I will work it out with the land owner to have them come as well...we need guys like you in the hobby...I am only 25 and I started reenacting when I was 15, and Im glad to see people who are dedicated like me...reguardless of their age.

I also re-checked the law for VA, it states that in VA there is no age limit on carrying a rifle, and the last time I checked the M1 Garand is a rifle so there is really no reason for a waiver for you guys to bring rifles.

Now for the event wavier, I had a chat with some guys about it...and not to be a dick or anything but I think it would be best that when you have your parents sign the event waiver to get it Noterized for me, I will have event waivers made up soon for you guys to do so.

Thank you so much for you compliment. I would being coming with a friend he is on this forum as ''redjoshman''. He already has his kit together and he would be providing me with an M1 Carbine. I live in NJ so Me+rifle+NJ= Near to impossible.

That has been a goal for out unit, the only problem is by the end of the war it was all trench warfare and I dont really have the facilities to host said event. There has been talk of doing that kind of event up in PA at the ww1 site but I heard dealing with the great war assoc. Is kinda a mix bag.

Also for a correct late war event we would all need the Flak vests and such, WHICH IS AWESOME, but it makes it harder for the impression and harder to start out. We would also need a lot more Chiccoms to make it intresting.

IT is the goal of our group to host a late korean war event in the future!

I know the flak vests are very very very hard to come buy. You could do with out them as not everybody used them. To be more real , you should have them , but it's not incorrect not to have them.

As usual, plenty of WWII stuff was still being used in Korea up until the mid 50s. Both fixed bale and moving bale helmets are fine.
