This book has been put out by the US Army Center for Military History (which you should all be familiar with by now... ;D ) for Army Museum personnel. It's a darn good book that covers from Revwar through 2008 (uniforms, gear, weapons, and some insignia), it's got a lot of good details and the years things were introduced, and best of all, it's available free as a .PDF from the Army. www.history.army.mil/html/museums/uniforms/survey.html

Foster said he found a whole bunch of errors in it, but that it's still decent. I thought it was pretty good myself...

There are some definite errors, but the good info far outweighs the bad info. I learned some things too. Sorry I don't mean to be harsh, but they got the description of my all-time favorite jacket, the A-2, wrong. It's a cardinal sin to me!

Honestly I was surprised by what was included, considering what it is. Most of the things I usually see wrong in museums are at least mentioned in some capacity, like helmet chinstraps and early vs. late war items (I forgot to check on carbine bayonet lugs). I wouldn't hesitate to send new reenactors a link to it. Unless, of course, thier impression involves an A-2 flight jacket...
