I have some Chinese info works in progress that I constantly update. I figured I'd just post my bibliography so far. I haven't read all these books cover to cover, so there's always more info out there. I have PDF's of some of the magazine articles, so if you're dying to read them send me a PM.
My Sources:
LTC Patrick A. Reiter, Initial Chinese Communist Logistics in the Korean War ( www.quartermaster.army.mil/oqmg/Professional_Bulletin/2004/Autumn04/Initial_Communist_Chinese_Logistics_in_the_Korean_War.htm ) ~A good write-up available online describing the terrible suffering of CPV troops in the war.
Marshall, SLA, CCF in the Attack ~Classified for 10 years after the war, this report details two firefights involving the CPV. Not 100% objective, but good nonetheless.
George, Alexander L The Chinese Communist Army in Action~ Good book on motivation and morale in the CPV, a must read for unit leaders. Based on interviews with CPV prisoners during the war. Some decent pics, as well.
Farrar-Hockley, Anthony A reminiscence of the Chinese People’s Volunteers~ China Quarterly No. 98 (June 1984). Write up of some of the campaigns and experiences of the war.
Thomas, Nigel, with Peter Abbott and Mike Chappell The Korean War~ Osprey book, mostly on UNF, but some good tidbits about Chinese.
Loesch, Robert J. Profile of the Enemy Soldier~ Good intro article from the 1950’s, from Army information digest.
Chinese Communist Forces in the Korean War~ Wartime article from Army Quarterly. Good organizational info, even though it is a bit condescending, reminding one that the enemy should not be underestimated on the grounds that he is just a Chinaman.
www.wikipedia.org ~ Mandarin and other Chinese Language information. They often have regular pages and “slang” or insult pages. You can imagine which one you’ll use for more around reenactors… as an anthropology minor I think it’s great that ancient Chinese also talked about people’s mom’s being slutty.
I just grabbed "Voices from Korea", so I didn't include it yet...
