Hello everyone, I am new to KW reenacting but not new to reenacting. I have been reenacting WWII since 2006 and have now decided to branch out. I have nor fixed my impression yet but I do know I want to do US Army. I have a full kit except for a few odds and ends. some people here might know me from the WWII Reenacting forum as Youthreenactors. Lil Beav

Hello to all from NC.
This is a interesting forum and I really hope it takes off. All my relatives were in WW2 or the Korean War. Vietnam was skipped.
Not many people understand the technical advances that were made during the Korean War. My personal favorite was the M2 carbine.

Hey, not sure if this forum is still up and running, but I'm from Texas, and do a number of impressions, including several Asian ones (althought I'm not Asian). I do WWII Japanese, 1950s Viet Minh, 1960-70s Viet Cong, and I'm working on my WWII Nationalist Chinese and Korean War Chinese infantry impressions. I have a deep respect for all U.S. military personel that fought and died in American wars, and being the "bad guy" is my way of helping interest in reenacting those wars take flight. If no one is the bad guy, the reenactment's not that fun right?

Hello everyone! I just signed up today. Glad to find this KW reenacting board. Are there any experts with info about the 102nd infantry or the 43rd infantry? I am looking to put together an impression to honor my Dad who was with the 43rd.

Hi, my name is Peter. I am from Wisconsin and I am a WWII USMC reenactor. I have been getting interested in other time eras and starting a Korean War impression is not that different. All I need is the cold weather gear. Plus I cold use the impression in the cold winters up here!

Hello all, just joined up while I'm in the process of collecting a USMC Chosin Impression, I recognize a lot of you from other places so I think I'll be safe here.
With Korea I guess I'll have to click back to Banana Wars and WWI Marine Impressions to round out the 20th century Jarhead collection...

Well, I just found this site, and so far it looks very interesting. Looking for a place to introduce myself, but, I'll do a short one here. I'm a retired Marine and I run a group out in Sacramento CA, the West Coast Raiders. We started out doing VN Marine Recon, and WW2 Raider/ParaMarine and Amphib recon Bn impressions, now, we're getting into the Korean War Marine Recon Co and Amphib Co's. We've got a group, the East Coast Raiders as well plus members in the UK, Czech and Philipenes. wcoastraiders.webs.com and ecoastraiders.webs.com

Hi, I'm Ian and I'm from Maryland. For awhile I've been trying to figure out a way to honor both of my grandfathers as they fought in Korea. I recently decided to do a Korea impression, and I was searching for a forum I stumbled across this one. So hello everyone.

I don't know if anyone will reply to this thread, but I'm Kim here. To make matters short, I was into WW2 reeenacting of the Imperialist Japanese side but got out of it because of a bad unit leader. Crap happened and I gave it some thought and now, I am trying to run my own North Korean People's Army unit to represent the deep battle sweeping which almost drove off the ROK/US forces, to the landing of Incheon, Defense of Pyongyang, to the 38th border stalemates, to the 1953 ceasefire and beyond. Of course, I'll give you an enemy to finally shoot at (someday). Please do warmly welcome me here.

Are you referring to 8th Shidan? I'll assume you're on the east coast then. The 24th Shidan from IL-IN-MI area is active and doing pretty well.
Hang onto your weapon and ammo pouches...helmet too, as these were used by the North Koreans early on. So far (and it's been at least a couple years since, IIRC) Chinese forces seem to be more plentiful than NKPA.

Yes, I'm based East Coast wise. Just left the infamous 8th Shidan, which is currently ran by my former best friend now enemy. I'm sure most of you guys here have heard the stories and personally, I am glad you have. I don't know about you, but his unit was one of the worst reenactment units I have ever been in. Unfortunately, it was my first unit as well. At the same time, I guess I know what NOT to do now. :\ The 24th Shidan are great guys. I've had the pleasure of speaking to one of their members (over the internet of course) and they have a lot of picture proof to prove their worth. I try to keep in touch with most IJM reenactors as much as I can, with the exception of the 8th of course. Ah, my trusty Arisaka rifle. While I do love it a lot, the best blanks for them are ungodly expensive and don't feed well at times. That and my Arisaka rifle is pretty much a collector grade rifle. Great bluing and wood finish, with 2/3 accessories still on it, early war, etc etc. As an NCO, I'm rather hesistant to use a nice rifle like that. And as far as I have seen on offical statisics, the KPA just used only about 20-15% of Japanese surplus in the war. They mostly came in armed with Soviet stuff of course. With that aside, I have seen many pictures of the KPA in the field, and they mostly wear soft caps with an occasional Ssh40 helmet mixed in as well. I have never seen any picture evidence of the Japanese Type 90 in use by the NKPA, so personally, I will not allow it in my unit. Thanks for the tips however, I shall most surely keep them in mind.
