Thanks Tom...each little bit I can find helps. It has been frustrating trying to research and collect the bits and pieces, particularly any clue about what unit insignia was worn...and finding patches to wear! I know it will be worth it, though.

From my previous research it seems like the British units still wore mostly WW2 surplus overseas, including P37 battledress and webbing. I remember something about P49 BDs being kept for home service while stocks of P37 were used up in Korea, similar to U.S. policy. The Canadians and the Australians in contrast had their own postwar uniform that they wore.

Interesting...that'd be a kick in the pants, considering I just got P49 BD. I knew that most of the webbing was still P37.
Right now the thing that is proving impossible to find is the 1st Commonwealth Division insignia. I've seen plenty of photos with no insignia at all being worn "on the line," but for the timeline event I am making this up for, it'd be one of those things that would just scream Korea. If I can't find it, I can't find it, but it'd be nice to have.
Thanks again for the help.

Men, My name is Brian and I'm just starting to research the Korean War. I'm 30 and live in the Atlanta, GA area. I did WBTS for about 10 years, both Union and Confederate. I've still got all the stuff for a good impression but I've lost interest in all the organizational politics, so about all I do now is a solo LH once or twice a year. I've been doing WWII for about three years now, with a 506th PIR and a 326th AEB impression pretty close to being complete. So, knowing there's no fun in completing one impression if you don't start another one, I'm thinking of adding Korean to the mix.
Looking forward to learning more about it!
Brian

Hey all, My name is Sean Kling and I am 30 years old and a U.S. Army Veteran. I started doing Silly War in 1989 but quit in 1999 when it was just too much to bare. I then did WW2 Army and that has been going the way of Silly War since Band of Brothers came out. Its a shame, I would love to do WW2 Marine because my Grandfather was in the 13th reg 5th Marines at Iwo Jima. But everybody has watched Flags of our Fathers and with the upcoming series"The Pacific" everybody will be doing Marine Corp or Corpsman. UHGGGGG! So currently I am doing Vietnam Marine Corp Golf Company 2nd Battalion 7th Marines (my dads unit in 1969) WW1 Marine Corp, and putting together a Korean War Army impression. I also can due Span Am War and Plains Indian War Infantry. I am currently working with my dad to make a documentry on his Vietnam unit. They have a ton of referances and pictures as well as they have a reunion every year. So anybody who might now something about film making let me know if you might be able to do something. I think that the wars like Korea and many other i.e the Boxer Rebellion and such need to be remmebered. Any help from anybody would be awsome. I live in Eastern Penn.
Sean Kling ;D

We have a pretty good mix of people doing Marine and Army on here, so hopefully we can be of some help. Several of us are in a group based mostly in Eastern VA. that does USMC WW2-Vietnam (and thinking of expanding that). Can't say I know much about filmmaking, though.

I decided to save two dozen pairs of canadian korean war BD trousers from a surplus chain that was going out of business and would probably have just thrown them out so I bought the lot for $40... decided to do something with this stuff I had bought so I started putting together an impression of the Princess Pat's in the Commonwealth Division. I should have most of it together by the end of the year. Ironically the insignia has easily cost more than the rest of the lot combined.

Hey guys, I've been registered on these boards, but have never posted here so I thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Cliff McCurley. I've been reenacting since the beginning of '95. I do CW, WWII, Nam, a little WWI and some Korea living history. Some of the members here know my brother Paul. I am cooler than him, but he's okay. Tom Salemi (foxholetom) is in love with me too
I'm here to further my knowledge on KW stuff since it's a newer impression for me. Anyways, hope you all are having happy Holidays!

My name is Ryan. I live in VA Beach. I currently re-enact WWII and nothing else, so Korean War re-enacting is completely new to me. I've done CW and WWI, and got burned out there with the "politics", "disregard for tactics" and "the unbelievably high cornball ratio". Yes, I've seen it in WWII. I just figured out how to ignore farbiness and do my own thing.
About my re-enacting "likes and wants": I have done "powder-burners" until I am blue in the face and am really only interested in small unit tacticals and living history events where the public gets an education. I mainly do WWII medical impressions (ETO/PTO GI, PTO FMF Corpsman) but I've been known to "bust caps" as a WWII rifleman on occasion. I might even throw down my rifle and run away. A "good event" for me is one in which I have to dig a lot, low-crawl, and go home covered in mud. I have always wanted to do a REMF impression like a clerk or something -- simply because in WWII re-enacting, it seems that everyone and their uncle already wants to be Dick Winters, Sgt. Stryker, etc. and I simply have no aspirations for fake glory on the fake battlefield.
The upcoming February tactical in Danville will be my first Korean War event.
I met John Abshire and a couple of you guys on here at the 2007 MTA (I was the wandering FMF Corpsman in filthy WWII utilities with no helmet cover). Since I don't know jack squat about Korea 1950-1953, I hope to learn everything I need to know from all of the knowledgeable individuals on this board -- and some good books wherever I can find them. Lurking here and reading some of the posts has already inspired me to purchase the Stanton KW Uniform book.
Hope my presence here isn't too intrusive. Excuse any stupid question I may ask -- I'm sure there will be many as I learn about the Korean War.

Ahn yung ha shim-ni ka!
John Chapman here. USMC vet from Viet nam, but I've done WWII German, Volkssturm, GI, USMC, Viet Cong and Japanese reenacting. Located in Northern Indiana. Maybe we can get this show on the road if we all work together!
Honestly, I don't know how many more years I'll be at this, but Korea certainly deserves it's place in the reenacting scheme of things! Count me as PRK or PLA (that's the bad guys)...although if you'll take a USMC re-tread I'm down for that too. regards to all.

Echoing the sentiments of what has been already said, there is an incredible amount of history to learn. The timeline of the Korean War period is where I am starting. Plus - gotta learn these bloody town or village names from one end of Korea to the other.
Cheers, Johnnie.

Hi, name is John, 42 and I live in north central Texas. I have been interested in reenacting for a long time but have done any yet. Seems there is not many units in my area to participate with. Started looking in British WWII, 101st Airborne but ran into problems and never finished.
I started looking into Korea for an event with work (MASH) but now starting to get real interested in trying to come up with a proper impression for Korea.
Is there anyone in Texas or Oklahoma??
