Hello all,
My name is Laura and I am the curator for the Shelby County Historical Society. We are located in Sidney, OH, about 40 minutes north of Dayton, right on I-75.
I am in the process of setting up our next exhibit which is all about the Korean War.
I came here hoping you could help me with two things:
1. Do any of you know of collectors/living historians in the area that might have artifacts we could borrow for our exhibit? We are especially in need of medical items, items relating to the everyday life of a soldier, and weapons.
2. Are there any Korean War living historians in the area? When the exhibit opens next month, we will be having a special opening gala where the local Korean War veterans will be invited to attend and will be specially honored. I was hoping to locate a few Korean War living historians who might attend in uniform and mingle with the guests. They might also be able to set up a display about their unit and bring any equipment they have. I am sure the veterans would be very interested in meeting those who are keeping their history alive!
As a living historian myself, I understand that money is often a deciding factor in attending events. However, our museum is quite low on funds at the moment. For now, I cannot promise you that I can provide any reimbursement for your attendance, other than the pleasure of mingling with actual Korean War veterans. I may be able to get funding to cover your gas mileage.
I would appreciate any help you all can offer me! Like I said, I'd love to be put in contact with someone who might have items to loan, and with living historians willing to attend our opening night.
You can reply to me here in this thread, or send me an email at: sail.on.by@gmail.com .
Thanks for all your help and good luck at future events!
Laura
