Hi guys, just wanted to get a feel from you all in some repro B-3 units. I have about 6 of my Grandfathers from the era and have located damn near perfect sized cans, have the fillings-all new sealed and usable (coffee, cocoa, creamer, sugar etc:) and have my cousin who is an artist in NYC doing all the leg work to match the paint color.
The cans will be refillable from the underside or you can have at em with a p-38.
Any suggestions, comments from all here welcome.(be gentle ;D)
Thanks Guys, John

John, I am the host of a Korean War Tactical and we feed the men at the event out of mermite coolers and we try and make it as authentic as possible...but at some events and sceanrios it would be better to have B- units and C-rations. We have a hard time finding C-rats at a reasonable price as well as B-units (which I have never seen). I think it would be a good idea if you can make them at a good price and I know that we would buy a bunch for the up and comming Korean war Tactical in Feburary 2009...it would be great to use such an item to make an already authentic event even more so. Its the little things that make an event.

John,
I figured the B-units would be a good addition to a units field kitchen. I (at this point) am only making the units with cocoa, coffee, creamer, sugar and a candy item which Will be period correct. I will also have some empty cans that will be painted up and could be filled with what ever anyone wanted to put in.
I am leery of making a repro C rat, I don't want to be on the hook for any food related issues. All the items in the B's will be factory sealed and fresh.
Anyone with suggestions please let me know. I am aiming to keep the completed price in the $4 area, hopefully lower.
p.s. are all members here also on the yahoo board, or should I post this there also/

It couldnt hurt to post that there as well...never can have to much "press'
The Cans would be great to have and the completed ones with the coffe and what not is great...and the empty cans we can put to use as well (filling them with canned food and sealing them before the event so not to worry about food related issues you mentioned, which is a good concern to have.
The Price is right to me, and we may be looking to you to "feed" us at the Korean Tactical in February...and hey I know its a ride from NJ but you should consider comming down that weekend for the event (we had fellas from as far as PA come).

Complete cans with contents would be great, but even just accurate empty cans for display and pack filling would be good. Finding ration items fom the period is hard work and they are often not in the best shape so I'd certainly be interested.

OstFront has some original canned (bread I think) units for sale right now - saw it on their sale page a little while ago.

Just to give you all an update, the cans get the 1st paint tomorrow. That will tell me give me an idea on the color and any adjustment needed. Once I have the cans painted and stamped, I will fill them and post some pictures for you to see and ask some opinions. I will be asking for advice, and feedback from you guys.
Thanks and a Happy Thanksgiving to all.
