OK guys here is an idea ive been tossing around, and I think would be great to get things started for the a Korean War Tactical event:
Getting G.I.s for an event isnt a problem, the problem is getting people who are dedicated to the idea of a Korean War event, which simply means getting people really motivated to do events and do them right. Since we are basically starting this, we should really consider setting the bar high on authenticity and realism, if we start with high settings and we make a promise to ourselves NOT to lower the bar then this hobby cant turn into what other eras have turned into...farb-festivals.
The other issue we have is finding people to play Chinese or N.Korean (Chinese is probally alot easier an impression to pull off), so without having hordes of Chinese soldiers blaring trumpets and charging the guns we have an obvious problem...and I really dont see a huge demand for CVP reenactors...yet.
So here is what I propose, why dont we start with small numbers of GIs who are highly dedicated and authentic and get together and do a tactical/living history type event, here is what I mean. We get a rifle squad or more and we dig some trenches, fill some sand bags and set up a forward area, we act as though we are under constant threat of attack, sniper and artillery...we stay in our holes...conduct patrols, and live/eat/sleep/fight just like they would have. With the aparent lack of "bad guys" a few of us can play Chinese to provide the patrols with some light contact, sniper encounters and ambushes while on patrol. Since later in the war it was mostly trench war-fare I suggest we start durring the early part of the war...and when popularity grows we move into later events and even winter events.
I have left the door open on alot of issues so we can cuss/discuss this idea and see if we can get something in the works. Id rather spend a weekend with 10 like minded people fighting 1-3 chinese soldiers than a weekend with 100 GIs and 100 Germans who are there to just burn caps.
