Soviet Stalshelm 40. Sometimes with a helmet net, often with branches and things in it. Not all guys had them.

Lots of Japanese helmets were in use as well... They even affixed foliage to their soft caps, making it diffcult to identify who was, and who wasn't wearing a helmet.
Also, there were a lot of Japanese rifles in use as well, with the corresponding leather belt, pouches, bayonet frog.

I was about to respond to this thread with something like "no, the NKPA had all Soviet stuff". But I started to double check, and found some interesting stuff in a book on logistics. According to interrogated North Koreans, the 7th KPA Division traded the Japanese stuff they started with for US stuff because the ammo didn't have to be transported as far. I don't have an exact date on that, but it must have been pretty early on as they didn't stay in the south too long after Inchon.
Not only did some NKPA units have Japanese stuff, but even as early as July 1950 US made South Korean uniforms were being issued to North Korean troops. The North didn't have enough uniforms on hand, and it was easier to use what was in the south than have them made and transported.
The reason for this was due to the US air interdiction campaign. North Korean logistics were never great to start with, but we really hammered the crap out of them and transporting anything from the North became a real issue.

Korea was a Japanese colony from 1910 or so, and fully exploited as such!! The Japanese even built an arsenal there turning out at least rifles (also one in Manchuria as well). So, you can imagine how much military stocks were available to the new Korean governments... The South even re-chambered many of the Japanese rifles to take 30-06 ammunition. Just a footnote to think about...especially for the North Korean reenactors here; not so much for Chinese.
