I have no real interest in doing North Korean, but I'm throwing together a tentative gear list. We may be able to have a cheap "alternative setup" that looks good from a distance (for public battles). NKPA is the only option for early war scenarios or events where steel helmets are mandatory. Of course there's all the current political baggage as well...

OK, real cheap NKPA...... Czech helmet from sportsmans guide or cheaper than dirt. khaki dickies or knockoff shirt and trousers (shirt tucked in) white canvas shoes, slip or lace on leather belt w/ soviet Nagant or SKS ammo pouch Now get some fishing net and string. tie bits of leaves and branches into the net, then drape it over your shoulders. If you can get some extra make a helmet cover. Moisin Nagant rifle. This is the cheapo impression list for public battles and stuff. Not that anyone would do North Korean living history...

Another possibility is a Chinese KMT uniform in Khaki from Ebay, including the cap. Cut the cap back some, and sew on some cotton tape in a zig-zag pattern around the crown.
Also, get a cheapie M-35 Soviet army tunic and do the same thing on the chest, sewing on cotton twill tape in a zig-zag pattern.
Although, to be honest, by the late summer of 1950 the NKPA was stretched so thin and so short on men they were practically taking civilians and ROK deserters and sending them into the fray with grenades and bayonets...sometimes completely unarmed!

At least one NKPA Division was issued with US M-43 uniforms that had been captured in bulk still in the crates. I'll look through my notes and see if I wrote down which one.
I have the cap (what you described), but no badge for it. Not sure if everyone got them, I never got into NK research like I did Chinese.
I think with the limited commuist numbers we could do a good event based on the Post-Inchon, Pre-Chinese time frame, with the GI's pushing as hard as possible against scattered and uncoordiated KPA resistance.

Hello I am new here and researching the NKPA. Did you have any joy finding which division used the M43 uniform? What variations did they apply? Did they use rank boards etc or was supply so short that they literally just used the uniform as it came out the crate? Much obliged for any light you can shed on this.
