Grimstead, I just finished a book about the 7th Division, talked about truck drivers getting into the action quite a bit. The book is called "East of Chosin", I recommend it.

Hey guys, I gave you a plug on my Ebay auction that's running right now, suggesting people come to the site. I wouldn't have known anything about the "Korean War uniform M-1951 M1951" mittens I have, if Google hadn't shown me the way to you, and eventually toStanton's cool book. i had no idea of the conditions the men had to endure. Sadly, most of what Americans know about the Korean War was filtered through the TV series MASH. Thank you for your education efforts--and to the vets, thank you for your service! Dan Callahan Burnsville, Minnesota e-mail: may.fly@comcast.net (My wife is the one with the auction. Her username is beezymariezie if you want to go through the work of looking at the page. I don't want to link to it and spam the board. Thanks again/

Well, I guess I should introduce myself.
I'm Tyler Cleaver, I live just outside Reading, PA (any other PA guys on here?) and I am 15 years old (16 in 3 weeks) I don't reenact Korea, but I do have 90% of an impression. But I do reenact WW2, have been reenacting for 1 1/2 years and collecting for about 5 years. And I have a partial Vietnam Impression.
The reason I am interested in Korea is my Step-Grandfather was in Korea in the 40th and 25th Divisions, he was a PFC and was in charge of a MG Squad. Also since I reenact WW2 and hopefully soon Vietnam I minus well do Korea too.
Tyler

Hello All I just want to say that I respect all who is setting up and or doing the whole Korean War thing I personally think it is about time this War is gets a little light shined upon it. I am not an reenactor or any thing like that possibly trying to look into doing it some day just not sure where to start. On a personally key my Father was a Korean War Vet he served from 1950-1954 in the Air Force as an Air policeman and my uncle Red served with the 8 th Army in the valley and I am also a Korean Vet i served 3 tours of duty there through the late 90's two tours on the DMZ so this War is a little closer to my heart than the rest i respect the time era y'all are reenacting and just really wanted to say Thank You.

Hello everyone,
I've posted a few times in the last 24 hrs and I thought I'd post here too.
I started doing WWII stuff with the Association of Living History here in Denver. We portrayed the 2nd Amd. Div. with a half track and an M5 Stuart.
We're doing a timeline most of the time now and I usually do Korea. There's really only one other guy here who has an interest in the KW. We're also in a group that represents the 10th Mtn. Div.; the ski troops who trained at Camp Hale near Leadville, Colorado.
Anyway, I've had the pleasure of meeting a few vets. One fellow, a 2nd Lt. 85th rgt, 3rd ID was so impressed with my display that he gave me his mummy bag, OD 108 wool shirt and wool glove inserts.
I know the shirt was very late or post war and it has his name in white on light blue tape. Whether it's for the 3rd ID or infantry, I'm not sure. It also has the black tape with US ARMY in gold. He was at the demolition of Hungnam after its evacuation.
His rgt. was stationed in Puerto Rico and the "black" PRs got to stay home while the "white" ones got to go to Korea in November of 1950 with little or no cold weather gear. They had to take parkas off dead Marines.
He told me how they would lace up their shoepacks snug up to where the eyelets stopped and then loosen the laces at the hooks; thereby letting some air circulate. The PRs, understandably not grasping the whole cold weather thing, would try to lace up tightly.
Another fellow who was an Lt. in the Engineers saw my demilled carbine with a grenade launcher (muzzle brake mount welded with the tube of an M7, M8s are hard to come by) told me how he used up all his rifle grenades 2 weeks after the armistice.
They were building a bridge when they came under fire from some Chinese. One of the other officers emptied the clip from his M2 carbine at the enemy, who took cover in a gully. The Lt. with the launcher killed all the Chinese with a salvo of rifle grenades. He called it "artillery in his pocket." He also had the last laugh on his buddies as they always gave him crap for wearing an extra ammo bag full of rifle grenades.
Anyway, I'm glad to be here!

My pleasure. I put a couple of photos on the yahoo KW group. I had some pics of my giving a presentation at Denver Academy a few years ago, but the disc got corrupted. I've got others. I've enjoyed the pictures I've seen so far; that's you as a Chicom, right?

So, where does one get Chinese stuff?
I see many people lauding the Stanton book. The KW vet who gave me his mummy bag let me borrow his copy about ten years ago. The Osprey books on the Korean War and Chinese unforms up to 1949 are very handy!

Fact is you have to piece it together at this stage of the game. Some items can be had on ebay, others from sportsmansguide.com and some can be "transferred" from east bloc euipment.
Be sure to check this board's Chinese Peoples Army section for good references.
If you want to pursue it, get with me off list, and we can get you started!
Regards, John C.

Greetings from Puerto Rico. I'm new to reenacting, but I've been a collector for almost 4 years now. I have a lot of relatives that served in Korea, and there's a lot of veterans around here. Borinqueneers all the way
