I spoke to my dads Gunny Sgt. from Vietnam who served in Korea. He told me that Marines in Korea always kept at least two grenades on them at all times. This included none front line marines in support rolls. When I asked Gunny Howard why this was, he told me that they kept them because of the way the Chiness and Koreas fought. Alot of time when they were charging at you that you felt helpless when loading your weapon. It was easier to throw a grenade at them between loading your rifle. He said when he was at the Chosin that he went through grenades like water.
Thought you guys would like that bit of history.

My Gunny says...
The Chinese waited until they heard the "ching" from the spent clip and then made their assault. It makes sense then to have a few grenades to pitch at them.
... and my Gunny had a Silver Star (from VN) so there!! ;O)
ref: Sgt. Maj. R.E. Cleary, Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps. (my boot camp Drill Instructor)
