I found a few other caps on trident militaria's site that may work. The main thing is that it has a khaki cotton outer part. If you look at the guy in the pic, you'll see the tops of the Chinese caps were much more rounded than Russian ones. Kinda like the padded suits, the Russian ones are about the only game in town at the moment. They also had a cap that looked like the Russian ones but had a little brim on it, there's probably some pics of it somewhere on here.

I've looked at those too.
They seem to be a 6-section beannie affair with ear flaps... They are very similar in cut to the Japanese fur cap. I don't know if Stewart's sells them, but I'm sure they'd be fairly expensive.
Besides, the Jap model is animal fur and the Chinese used shorter lamb's wool/fish fur. Also, the euopean/Soviet style is basically flat on top as well , so there is a visible difference between the three examples.

I hadn't thought about Japanese, I'll probably spend the day looking at all the various Eastern European Ushanki. I think the Soviet one will be OK for the time being. I think the closest one I found was a Hungarian one on ebay, but it turned out to be from before the 1956 invasion and probably just as collectable as a Chinese one. I may look for something cheap that may take some work, as well. I don't mind bleaching/dyeing/resewing or something.

Guys, just finished a chapter in the book "Disaster In Korea", about the Chinese 2nd Phase Offensive against 8th Army, which is the timeframe of the upcoming event. Aerial recon reports described Chinese wearing a lot of white uniforms, and some wearing dark blue. I would assume the dark blue uniforms would the ones from the Civil War?

Hey Foxholetom, Yes, you are correct the Communist side during the Chinese Civil War is believed to have worn that blue/blue-gray color, (that's HKKieth's contention as well) eventually towards the end in 1948 & 49' I believe that both sides went to a khaki/tan/light brown shade. The white color mentioned in the book (I've seen really white looking uniforms in photo's too) is probably from in my opinion, those poor Chinese grunt infantrymen being exposed to the elements day in and day out, rain and shine it will fade a khaki uniform quickly, especially one cheaply made and mass produced. On a slightly different note: I have seen the correct "color" of something debated in sooo many time periods it will make your head spin. I don't think we should 'nit pick' the shade of Chinese uniforms too harshly; when it comes to any khaki, tan, or light brown, all variances of those should be acceptable. As long as it's in the normal realm, and not some oddball exception to the rule. As Foxholetom's historical reference shows (unless the recon pilots were color blind) it would appear that they were, at least that division(s) or regiment(s), was wearing their old "Civil War" uniforms. I think that furthers my point for HKKieth's Chinese Civil War uniforms as acceptable for at least early Korean War reenacting in regards to Chinese troops. Patrick Hubble

I was having a beer today at the DAV Post with a Marine veteran of the Chosin campaign, and I asked him specifically what color the Chinese uniforms were and he replied that they were gray...with some white (I'm thinking that's the "reversible" type).
Just thought I'd pass that little bit of intel along for whatever it's worth.
