Winter Clothing Display

This is based off the illustrations in the Stanton book. I skipped a few steps, and I'm missing a couple things. I still need two more pairs of wool socks, suspenders for the M43 trousers, and the winter trigger finger gloves. I also couldn't find my trouser belt, or my 5 button sweater. Still, it gives you a good idea of the layers worn during the winter months.

Winter Longjohns

M37 wool shirt with combat infantry badge, and M51 OG 108 wool trousers. And before anyone asks, yes I actually have orders for the CIB....

MQ-1 pile cap, shoepacs and M43/M50 field trousers.

Wool knit scarf and M43 pile liner.

M50 field jacket.

M1 helmet worn over M51 pile cap, flaps down (forgot to tie them under the chin), with parka type overcoat. Field expedient burlap helmet cover on helmet.

Full winter uniform with M50 field jacket hood over M1 helmet.

Full winter uniform with parka hood up.

Guilty. ;D Really though, its step one. Oh yeah, and I need two more pairs of socks for that too.

Plus you need the BAR and the cigarette. It's totally part of the uniform. You should put all that crap back on (In the middle of a heat wave) so you can have that stuff. especially the cigarette.

Hehehe, I was going to do the cigarette if I'd done the BAR, but I didn't want the neighbors to start making phone calls. :-D

That's very cool, Tom. It's nice to see the colors involved. Geez, though, I feel for you... it got up to 103 here at the house just north of Atlanta. Kudos to your dedication.

As soon as the last photo was taken, I rushed inside and started getting out of out of all the layers. lol I'd managed to leave sweat on the inside of the pile liner, straight through the longjohns and the wools.

Wow. It's a great idea though, especially for anyone who doesn't have the book. I'd say I'd do a similar thing for Marine Corps, but I may be missing a few layers. Plus, it's a cool way to show off your collector mojo.

I highly recommend waiting for cooler weather. Trust me!

I'm going to do it again when I have all the right items (trouser suspenders, gloves, etc), and if i can ever find that damned sweater. Though, my M43 liner is honestly slightly small on me, because it just doesn't work with a sweater underneath. Like, I can't move my arms, at all. Without the sweater though, its fine.

A USMC version would be neat. What would be different besides standard stuff like the helmet cover?

Marines had a different wool shirt, (http://www.schipperfabrik.com/usmc_uniforms.html , about halfway down) and a sleeveless vest lined with fur that I think may have been issued instead of the M43 liner. I haven't even seen one for sale in years, though.

Interesting. I was aware of the Marine wool shirt, didn't know about the vest.

It's lined like the pile liner, more of a khaki brown color, four buttons up the front IIRC. I don't know if it was universally issued or not.

I have an extra pair of those white camo covers for the Trigger finger mittens if you want them or anyone else. I think they are dated 1951 ?

the marine corps vest is alpaca lined i believe, there was one on ebay the other day but I didnt see what it went for. And I could be wrong here but did the marines where the navy parka?
